The negotiator

Conversation tonight at the dinner table:

Me: Luke, wanna taste some of Daddy's favorite stew?"

Luke: "Nope."

Me: "I'll give you a quarter if you taste a small spoonful." (I've got no shame in that bribe, folks)

Luke: (he hesitates)....."Ummmmmm.....well....."

Me: "Ok, I'll make it better and give you two quarters if you taste this small bit on the spoon."

Luke: (thinks hard) "I'll do it for five quarters. That's all."

I think we have a negotiator on our hands.

BTW, I passed on his offer and he never tried the stew.

His loss.

This one is for you, Sherri

I cried tonight during this commercial.

Can you guess why? So many friends in that city..... at the 8 second mark.

Coralie, Becky, April, Elizabeth, Christine, Joni....love & miss you all.

Engagement photos: Ira & Liz

This cute couple is getting married on mine and Mitch's wedding anniversary! I had the joy of photographing them last night and, all I've got to say is, THEY ARE DEFINITELY IN LOVE.

A few quick takes

1. I'm a night owl. I love staying up late and living in the quiet for a few hours alone. However, I am getting more sleep this summer than ever before. Well, not every night - but I do on most nights. I'm not sure if that's due to the kids being out of school which creates less responsibility to rise early, exhaustion from being outside literally all day, a cleaner house (since we're mostly outside), or ?????? I like it, though.

2. It happened two times last week. I was checking out at the register when the sweet cashier said, "Sweetie, did you know your shirt was on inside out?". I was embarrassed and Andrew giggled. Then, a few days later as I was unloading the children and groceries from the van, Andrew said, "Uh, Mom....you did it again. You're shirt is on backwards and inside out." I felt normal when my friend, Peggy, arrived at church yesterday with her dress on backward.

3. Andrew is begging for school to start back up again. Why do I feel sad for him when he starts marking the days of summer off his calendar as he's counting down to the first day of first grade? Luke is lovin' this "being at home" routine.

4. It rained every afternoon last week. We played in it, got dirty, and we liked it. So there, rain!

5. I sneezed loudly in church service yesterday but I remembered to sneeze into my elbow. However, Luke's head is at my elbow height. Sorry, my little man.

6. We spend every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at one of our city parks since it houses the tennis complex where Andrew takes lessons. When finished with tennis, we usually go on a walk and bug exploration. Last week, we took three large jars so we could capture a few frogs. A "few frogs" turned into twenty baby frogs in one jar which then turned over in my van. It was NOT FUN hunting frogs in my van in the scorching Georgia sun & humidity. Just sayin'....

7. We have awesome neighbors. I can see six houses from my front window and God has allowed me to know all those who live there. Two houses will be going through a transition in a month since they are both employed in the army and will be moving to another post. We had a block party last week to celebrate our friendship. They will be missed!

Our overnight visit kept us B-U-S-Y!

My brother and sister-in-law just bought a new house, are expecting their first child soon, and had nothing to do this past weekend. This meant that our family loaded up our van and drove north to the Atlanta area to spend the night with them. We stayed busy and had a blast!

Of course, you can't go any trip and not make a visit to Publix. We never leave that wonder of a grocery store without some free treat in hand. This time, it was a six fingered crayon nub. It kept our kids entertained for long periods of time during the car rides.

Once we arrived, I began snapping pics of my brother's cute and quaint little town. So historic! It was a delight just sitting at the traffic lights waiting for a green.

Since we were in the Atlanta area, we were surrounded by two of our favorite things.... Chick-Fil-A and Coca-Cola! However, being that we were in the same area as the founder of CFA, Truett Cathy, we decided to visit him at his grill. Heck, he was such a humble millionaire that he even stopped to pose for a picture with us. The food was delicious as usual.

This is the light fixture in the women's restroom at Truett's Grill. It's empty coke bottles! Only in Atlanta.....

Abigail entertained us on the car ride by singing alot of songs. We would make a request and she would belt the tune away! She even buckled her doll along for the fun.

Saturday morning was bliss in that we got to sleep in and hang out in our PJs for a few hours before moving on to the next activity.

We did a little fishing, too. Andrew received a fishing pole from my brother for Christmas and it was time to finally test it out. Luke also got his hands dirty. Bait of choice?....a hotdog. They caught three brim and thought they were professionals! Thanks, Stuart, for loving on your nephews. You've made a great memory with them.

Yeah, he was proud of his catch!

Aren't they a cute couple?

Abigail just hung out while her brothers cast their lines.

Finally, my brother lives within miles of Atlanta Motor Speedway. We thought we would just ride by and show the kids the perimeter of the race track since they are regular watchers (nappers, is more like it) of the Sunday races when we snuggle in bed for our afternoon nap. Security saw us desperately trying to get a peek of the cars through a high fence and waved us down. We thought we were gonna be in trouble but, instead, we were given a free pass to enter the in-field and pit row areas! Now, I don't hate NASCAR by any means but I don't know a whole lot about the sport. I could tell you the names of about 5-6 drivers but I don't know their car numbers, who owns them, or who sponsors their car. But this was a real treat because I knew that my boys would get a kick out of watching the loud cars race by while we stood just yards away!

A La Carte

He cared for more than a perfect game: Jim Joyce & Armando Galarraga: learning contrition, mercy & forgiveness on the baseball field.

Want to know how massive the oil spill is? You can plug in any city or state and MOVE THAT SPILL to see the devastation.

I'm currently at my brother's house and he is telling me that I need to blog about him and how great he is. So....Stuart, you are great. Are you happy now?

A rough week for Guatemala

Volcanic eruption, tropical storm, and a massive sinkhole...all happening within a matter of days in the country of Guatemala. See pictures of all the destruction and then pray for the lives of these people.

Spelling

Andrew spent some time alone in the playroom tonight. I heard him making letter sounds but it wasn't until he brought this paper to me that I realized what he had been doing. It was a challenge but he was quite proud of his work.

So funny!

I wrote the translation above it so you would know what word he wrote.

Love you, Coralie.

I don't want to type much. If I do, I'll end up crying more than I already have today. Crying is good and I don't mind crying more, but I'm just sad and honestly don't like the reminder that my sweet close friend is leaving tomorrow to move to Missouri.

Here are just a few pictures of our last few days together. I like how most of these pictures capture the joy in our children's faces. They loved each other just as much.

My daughter's best friend, "Mackerdoodle". She will be greatly missed and I will miss seeing them hug in delight upon seeing each other. What sweet embraces. So glad that I was able to be a part of your pregnancy journey with that handsome "Cheesedoodle". I wish I could watch him grow up over the next three years.

Coralie's mom reading to my children.

Their last stop in town: our house. What a precious hour it was! It didn't hit me until our time came to an end that this was the last time I'd lay eyes on you for a while. No longer will I be able to stop by your house whenever I want, see you at church twice a week or so, meet you at Chick-Fil-A, enjoy playgroups together, or come over to your house for dinner. This sounds so sad!

Such sweet friends.
My heart breaks for my daughter, too,
for she's also losing a friend to distance.

Be careful tomorrow as you drive. We will be there next summer to visit, no doubt. Mark a week out for us in June or July, 2011. I'm not kidding.

Didn't I say I wasn't going to type much? *Sniff* Sniff*

50 Worst Inventions of all time

50 Worst Inventions of all time: Come on...I love my Crocs! They are so versatile. Who cares that they aren't the prettiest shoe in the world? I can wear them to the pool where they can get wet, to the beach where they can get sandy, to the parade on the hot asphalt, and around the house so I don't pick up crumbs on my bare feet.

Among other worst inventions listed: The Segway, New Coke, Vibrating belt, and WOW potato chips.

PCB vacation

I've already posted a few pictures on Facebook but I wanted to share about our vacation in more detail on this blog.

This was our resort. Lots of fun people to watch....created lots of questions from my children's minds. Interesting and entertaining.

Andrew is a fish in the pool, although he prefers the ocean.

Luke wanted very little to do with the ocean
and even asked if he could sleep the night away in the pool.

Abigail loved the hot tub!

The vertical drop from our balcony on the 11th floor.

The view from our room.

Mitch regretted taking the kids on this ride.
He wishes I had chaperoned instead.
Let's just say his stomach doesn't do well
when going 'round and 'round in fast circles.

Nothing like a hamburger from FIVE GUYS.
Awesome!

Abigail was hot and tired but they enjoyed
finishing an 18 hole round of miniature golf.
Luke even got a hole-in-one!

Tee time!

Kindergarten is complete!

Andrew graduated from kindergarten last week. He's now officially calling himself a first grader, which he is! Parents say it to themselves all the time but it's true....."I really can't believe how fast he is growing up."

It's all about you, sister

They were just precious! So easy to photograph and a delight to spend time with as we tip-toe'd around the Riverwalk here in Columbus. Love these girls!
